Fashion Circularity Lab

The New Factory is a worker-owned Fashion Circularity Lab

Founded by a group of garment workers and sustainable fashion organizers, our mission is to reduce textile waste going into landfill, support a circular textile economy, and create green manufacturing jobs.

We partner with industries and consumers to recover textile waste for upcycling into merchandise, fashion & apparel products, as well as new recycled materials.

Past Project

Our goal is to scale our textile upcycling operations up to 100,000 kg of textile by 2026

a co-operative experiment for a circular fashion economy

The New Factory is worker-owned textile reuse and recyling start-up initiated by a group of garment workers in Bandung, Indonesia who were laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are committed to the worker-ownership model, following the footsteps of the Mondragon Corporation and many similar co-op movements. We are working with Fashion Revolution Indonesia on a scale-up experiment to expand worker-ownership and the recycling capacity of Bandung’s textile recycling sector.

This initiative is funded by The Democracy at Work Fund.
